KMC Mosque: Rural Rhythm and Spatial Embrace

Designing a mosque in a rural setting differs from an urban one primarily in how the form relates to the natural topography rather than a built environment. Rising modestly within the vast landscape, the KMC Mosque serves not only as a place of worship but also as a community hub for social gatherings and events. As a local landmark, the building and its surrounding landscape define a vital meeting point for the village.
The core of the design is the sensation of being "embraced" by a solid mass while inside. Strategic openings following the curve of the vault emphasize the building’s form through light, while smaller apertures act as "vistas" looking out toward significant local points. Although the structure is recognizable within the vernacular context, it maintains a non-oppressive height that defines the boundaries of the interior void. The form is further shaped by climate-responsive elements; deep eaves act as sunshades during the summer while allowing natural light to penetrate the interior during winter. Ultimately, the project aims to adapt naturally to its physical environment, creating a subtle contrast with the local texture while enriching both indoor and outdoor spatial experiences.
